To the casual eye, many features of everyday life seem destined to lull the Japanese to sleep: the steady rattle of a stuffy commuter train, the drone of a monotonous lecturer, the thrum of an office air-conditioner.

more than music i would say rhythms have the power to relax your minds into states of drowsiness.

it can be the sound of a ceiling fan, the sound of raindrops on the roof, even melodious winds breezing through a bunch of trees.

heck, after a while even the noise of a traffic jam would lull you to sleep!!

I think you are completely right Asmita. I have always had a ceiling fan going and it clicks because it was not put up right but I can’t sleep without it. Apparently you can hear it 2 floors down it is so loud but it is just something I can’t sleep without. It has become habit to me.

I believe that soothing music has the power to send us to sleep. Not the screaming loud type of music as that will energize you. I believe that it is individual though in what an individual finds is soothing to them.

Anything that suits your senses is music , it may be just a rythmic sound or a relaxing composition as Nikki said it is individualistic. I really get involved in some light instrumental music for relaxation and sleep..takes me into another world.

I usually can fall asleep to music if I am listening to Enya, New Age, Native American flute or drum sounds.
